Looking for the best Japanese language resources and courses?
These are my all-time favorite resources for learning Japanese. There are quite a lot of Japanese resources out there but these are the ones I've personally found to be the best.
I'll update this list over time.
Courses for all levels in Japanese
Rocket Japanese: This is my personal favorite and one I can't recommend enough. Rocket Japanese is so incredibly popular and covers an enormous amount of Japanese language content. Do yourself a favor and do a free trial.
Podcasts for learning Japanese
JapanesePod101 (Innovative): Ever heard of JapanesePod101? I'd be surprised if you haven't! JapanesePod101 teaches uses a fun podcast format and it's a joy to listen to.
Best books to learn Japanese
There are some really great books out there for learning Japanese but these are some of my personal favorites:
Online Japanese teachers (via webcam)
Wyzant: Create a free account and have look at the unbelievable amount of Japanese teachers available for low cost.
Some Japanese teachers on Wyzant are so cheap it will shock you.
Mobile apps for Japanese
Mondly: An amazing and comprehensive app for learning Japanese (and many other languages). Covers loads of relevant Japanese topics and is beautifully designed.
Drops: A very popular app (available for Japanese) that does flashcard-style learning for vocabulary.
Babbel: One of the most popular and well-known apps for learning Japanese and other European languages. Superior to Duolingo in every way.
Best audio-only course for Japanese
Pimsleur Japanese: One of the biggest household names in language learning. It's been around for decades and is still one of the greatest Japanese introductory courses ever made (audio only).
Best story-based Japanese course for people who love reading
Japanese Uncovered:If you love reading, then this is a perfect choice. Japanese Uncovered teaches you Japanese through stories that have been written and adapted for beginners. Very popular course option with a literary focus.
Learning Japanese grammar
Duolingo: Surely you've heard of Duolingo! It's a decent, free platform that teaches you Japanese grammar through a unique translation game.
