Man'yoshu (Manyoushuu, Manyoshu), also called “Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves”; is one of the oldest Japanese poetry collections which still exists. This collection was written by all kinds of people, such as: merchants, soldiers, farmers and even emperors. The collection is divided into 20 books and consists of the following:

  • 4,536 Waka.
  • 4 Chinese poems.
  • 22 passages of Chinese prose.

The theme of the poems varies among love poems, nature poems and poems about life. Although, most authors are unknown, there are many famous Asian poets, such as:

  • No Kakinomoto Hitomaro.
  • Yamabe no Akahito.
  • Yamanoe Okura no.
  • Otomo Yakamochi no.

Nobody knows exactly, who compiled these books, but some historians believe that these books were compiled by Otomo no Yakamochi.
